Triplebyte

Triplebyte

Triplebyte is a hiring platform company that uses machine learning to help technology companies identify and recruit talented engineers.

[4] [1]

Team

Triplebyte was founded in 2015 by Harj Taggar, Ammon Bartram, and Guillaume Luccisano after they all experienced firsthand the challenges of hiring.

Harj was the first partner at Y Combinator, where young companies often struggle to hire their first employees.

Guillaume and Ammon were working on Socialcam (later acquired by Autodesk in 2012 for $60M), where they also experienced firsthand the challenges of hiring.

[5]

Triplebyte was founded on the belief that the technical hiring process doesn’t do enough to help engineers show their strengths.

The founders started Triplebyte to help engineers find great jobs by assessing their abilities without relying on the prestige of their resume credentials.

Overview

Triplebyte operates like an applied research company and uses a "background blind" approach to hiring.

Triplebyte’s first steps involved extensively interviewing engineers in the Y Combinator alumni network, capturing every data point possible before applying machine learning to better understand both automated assessment tests and human technical reviews (which involve an engineer interviewing an engineering candidate).

They used this data to create an adaptive multiple-choice automated assessment test that began producing results.

Over time the company grew to helping tech companies outside of YC including Apple, Atlassian, Opendoor and Groupon — began trying out Triplebyte for their hiring needs.

As the platform grow, they continue to use new data points to improve their methodology through machine learning.

[4]Many companies allow applicants they have interacted with through Triplebyte to skip coding challenges and phone screens, fast-tracking them to the final steps of the application process.

[4]“The metric that companies care most about is what percentage of on-site interviews convert into hires, and the industry standard is 20 percent.

Triplebyte’s placement rate is 40 percent,” says Taggar, who calls it “more accurate at figuring out which candidates a company wants to hire than the company itself.”

Investors

In February 2018, Triplebyte raised a $10 million Series A round from Initialized Capital.

They had previously raised $4.5 million in seed funding.

Triplebyte has received angel investments from Marissa Mayer, Drew Houston, Jessica Livingston, and Paul Graham.
