The docuseries, Trial by Media was created in association with Smoke House Pictures. It was directed by Skye Borgman, Garrett Bradley, Yance Ford, Brian McGinn, Sierra Pettengil, and Tony Yacenda. Executive producers include the author and lawyer Jeffrey Toobin, journalist, author, and Court Tv founder Steven Brill (scriptwriter), Smokehouse Pictures Academy Award winners George Clooney and Grant Heslov, Brian McGinn, Jason Sterman, and David Gelb.[1][2][3][4]
Plot Summary
The Netflix documentary series Trial By Media gives a detailed breakdown of some of the most dramatic and memorable trials in recent history. In particular it focuses on the ways in hich media coverage has complicated legal matters in important cases. In six sections, Trial By Media explores how the press helps reshape public perception concerning guilt or innocence before, during or after a trial. The series features a diverse set of cases including the unforgettable Jenny Jones made-for-Court TV murder trials, the sensational story of Rod Blagojevich's political fall, and the case of Amadou Diallo, an unarmed African immigrant who was shot 41 times by police in New York City
The name Trial By Media is a saying that originated in the United States and can be traced back to the phrase "Trial by Television" which was a response to the 3 February, 1967 television broadcast of The Frost Programme when David Frost aggressively questioned insurance fraudster Emil Savundra on air.
