Mass Shooting
On Sunday, April 22, 2018 at around 3:30 a.m Travis Reinking allegedly opened fire with an AR-15 rifle killing four at a Waffle House at 3571 Murfreesboro Pike in Antioch.
He was seen walking south on Murfreesboro Pike, according to a Metro Nashville Police Department tweet early Sunday.
At about 1 p.m., Nashville Police tweeted that Reinking was taken into police custody, "moments ago."
The four victims killed in the shooting are, Taurean Sanderlin, Joe R. Perez, Akilah Dasilva, and a DeEbony Groves.
Police dogs tracked Reinking to a nearby wooded area with overhead power line towers, police said.
Police said Reinking is not believed to be armed, but he has a propensity for guns, so not ruling out that he may be armed and dangerous.
After the shooting, Reinking shed his jacket and was nude when he went to a nearby apartment complex, where police believe he lives.
A witness told police that they saw him leaving wearing only black pants.
Two people were fatally shot outside the restaurant as Reinking allegedly started firing his "assault-type rifle" as he got out of his truck, police said.
One person was shot inside the restaurant and a fourth person died at a hospital.
Six total people were shot, and others sustained injuries from flying glass and debris.
James Shaw Jr. one of the customers at the Wafflehouse tackled and disarmed Travis Reinking and suffered minor injuries.
Shaw ran to the restaurant's restroom area and watched the shooting.
When he saw Reinking looking at his rifle, he rushed him.
He got the gun away from Reinking and threw it over the counter.
Police called the patron "a hero."
The shooting is believed to be random, police said.
The vehicle Reinking arrived in to the restaurant is registered to him, and his driver's license had a Morton, Illinois, address.
Criminal Record
In 2017, the U.S.
Secret Service arrested Reinking for being in a "restricted area" near the White House, according to Nashville police.
After the arrest, his Illinois firearms authorization was revoked and local Illinois police seized four weapons.
"Among the weapons seized by those authorities was the AR-15 rifle used at the Waffle House today," said Nashville police spokesman Don Aaron at a Sunday afternoon news conference.
Police believe Reinking's father received the weapons after their confiscation, and returned them to his son.
Reinking may still have two weapons as police continue their manhunt, Aaron said.
