Top 5 (birth name Hassan Ali) is a Somali-Canadian rapper from Toronto's Lawrence Heights neighborhood.
He first received mainstream recognition on December 12, 2014, when fellow Toronto rapper Drake posted Top 5's song "Shirt Off Shawty" to his personal Instagram page.
Since then, Top 5 has been a music industry insider with links to Drake's OVO, French Montana, Metro Boomin, PnB Rock, Lil Uzi Vert, Nav, and many more.
Stage Name
The pseudonym "Top 5" originated from Ali's days playing pick-up basketball.
In an interview with Vice, Ali stated that "people used to look at me and be like 'he’s top five this, top five that'".
