Tom Johnston was a meteorologist based in Portland, Maine. ^[1]He was known be his colleagues by the nickname "T.J. Thunder." ^[3]

Johnston attended Rutgers University where he was part of the Rugby club. He graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science in Earth and Atmospheric Studies. He went on to earn his Master's of Science in 1995 from Mississippi State studying Meteorology. ^[1]

Johnston has been a meteorologist for several stations in different cities including Tuscon, Arizona, Miami, Cape Coral, Jacksonville, and most recently Portland, Maine. ^[1]Johnston has engaged in other business ventures too. He has a real estate license and a patent pending line of baby apparel. In addition, Johnston has a TESOL/TESL/TEFL Certification to teach English as a second language. ^[1]

In his free time, Johnston enjoyed boating and pursuing his side projects.

Tom would volunteer his time at a local animal shelter in Portland.

Tom is remembered for his friendly demeanor, sense of humor, and contagious smile.

On Monday, April 3rd, Tom Johnston's was reported missing by his girlfriend.

^[6]On Saturday he left his home in Old Orchard Beach home early Saturday morning to emcee the Springfest event at Sunday River Ski Resort.
