Todd Levine is a founding member and attorney at Kluger, Kaplan, Silverman, Katzen & Levine, P.L., a boutique litigation firm with offices in Miami and Boca Raton, Florida. The firm focuses on disputes across a range of disciplines and industries, including business, corporate, real estate, and bankruptcy litigation. It also handles securities and financial fraud, corporate governance, debtor and creditor’s rights, appeals in state and federal courts, professional liability, intellectual property law, entertainment sports law, fashion law, class actions, and complex matrimonial litigation. The firm’s veteran litigators are often retained to appear in federal and state courts throughout the country in “bet the company” type cases as a result of their aggressive, results-oriented, creative, and focused approach to problem solving.
Levine is one of the firm’s litigators and handles virtually all types of complex business disputes. He maintains a strong focus on commercial real estate litigation and regularly represents real estate brokers, developers, lending institutions, buyers, sellers, investors, property managers, owners, contractors, and subcontractors in disputes arising out of commercial real estate projects and transactions. Although commercial real estate is a strong suit for Levine, he also handles a variety of disputes in the entertainment and sports industries.
Levine graduated from the University of Florida in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in Finance. He went on to study law at the University of Florida’s Levin College of Law and he graduated with Honors in 1991. After passing the bar, Levine was admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida and U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Sixth and Eleventh Circuits.
Early in his career, Levine discovered that he had a knack for resolving complex cases. Specifically, he excelled at reframing issues and arguments to make them easier for a judge or jury to understand. His natural ability to simplify the intricate enabled him to consistently resolve cases in his clients’ favor. This ultimately led to Levine’s reputation as a skilled lawyer who uses creative approaches to solve complex problems. Part of being a litigator means expecting the unexpected. From experience, Levine learned to forecast the many routes that a case or argument can take and plan ahead for the various possibilities. Consequently, he has developed the ability to think on his feet and quickly come up with solutions.
In addition to being a renowned commercial litigator, Levine also maintains a more traditionally creative side as an artist and musician. Having played the guitar since the age of 10, he shares the same enthusiasm with his sons, who are also musicians. These creative influences, combined with his analytical and diagnostic skills, have enabled Levine to develop a unique style of practice.
Levine believes that the best way to spur creativity in the legal world is to have in-depth knowledge about the case and the law, and then boil down the key issues to their simplest forms. Whether making arguments in front of a judge, jury, or arbitrator, Levine realizes that at the end of the day, everyone is human, and the simpler you can make the issues, the better chance you have to succeed.
Levine is also very attentive to his clients. He pays close attention to his clients’ needs, and he makes it a habit to always respond to any client inquiries within 24 hours, if not within the hour. Levine further cares for his clients with his thoroughness and attention to detail. Preparation is the key to success for any complex commercial litigator. Being thoroughly prepared allows a litigator to rebut and address any counter argument that the opposing counsel may make. It also allows attorneys to better manage their priorities and meet their clients’ expectations.
In addition, Levine believes that it is important to find a specialty that you love and quickly develop your practice. The faster you can become known as the go-to choice, the more likely it is that potential clients will seek you out.
In 2018 and 2019, Levine was named as a Best Lawyer for Real Estate Litigation by the U.S. News and World Report. Before and since then, he has been named one of South Florida’s Top-Rated Lawyers for Commercial Litigation by the Martindale Hubbell, as a “Super Lawyer” by Super Lawyers magazine, among the “Legal Elite” by Florida Trend Magazine, a “Top Lawyer” according to the South Florida Legal Guide, “Most Effective Lawyers” by the Daily Business Review, and “Best of the Bar” by the South Florida Business Journal.
