On May 28, 2017, Burton was shot and killed early in the morning at a graduation party in Axton, Virginia. ^{[undefined] [1]}

Authorities were called to the 4300 block of Martin Drive for a possible shooting incident just before 1:00 a.m. local time. ^{[undefined] [1]}

When deputies arrived at the Axton Lodge, the Pines, they had learned multiple people had been shot.

Two people had already been driven to a local hospital.
