The new Swiss banknotes
The new Swiss banknotes (released 2016 - 2019)
History
The new Swiss banknotes began to be released by the Swiss National Bank on 12 April 2016 with the new 50-Swiss franc note.
On 17 Mai 2017 the new 20-franc note came out, on 18 October 2017 the new 10-franc note, on 22 August 2018 the new 200-franc note, on 13 March 2019 the new 1000-franc note and, finally, on 12 September 2019 the new 100 Swiss franc note.
These new notes are the 9th series of Swiss banknotes.
Features
Design:
The 9th series of Swiss banknotes is worth watching (being esthetic and original) and holding (the 1000 Swiss franc note is probably the most expensive easy-to-buy-easy-to-sell banknote on earth!
- it is worth around 1000 USD).
These new banknotes do not depict personalities, as so many banknotes do.
They rather depict typical Swiss characteristics, the inspiration behind this new banknote series being ‘The many facets of Switzerland’.
Each note contains 4 key design elements: on the front one or two hands in action and an earth globe, and on the back a location and a symbolic object.
The 10-franc note focuses on Switzerland’s organisational talent – expressed by time, the note’s key motif.
The 20-franc note focuses on Switzerland’s creativity – expressed by light, the note’s key motif.
The 50-franc note focuses on the wealth of experiences Switzerland has to offer – expressed by the wind, the note’s key motif.
The 100-franc note focuses on Switzerland’s humanitarian tradition – expressed by water, the note’s key motif.
The 200-franc note focuses on Switzerland’s scientific expertise – expressed by matter, the note’s key motif.
The 1000-franc note focuses on Switzerland’s communicative flair – expressed by language, the note’s key motif.
Security :
These new banknotes have numerous security features – some new, some tried and tested - which are incorporated into the note’s innovative, three-layer substrate (Durasafe®).
One of these features is a security strip on the front of the note, which contains a map of Switzerland with different informations depending on the note, and a small text which also contains many informations that vary depending on the note and it's key motif.
For example, the 100-franc note contains a Swiss map with a network of waterway and the text gives a list of the longest rivers of Switzerland.
The 1000-franc note gives the 4 Swiss language regions on the map (french, german, italian and romanch) and the list of all the 26 Swiss cantons.
As such, these banknotes are original, nice, smart and secure.
