The Invitation by Nick Cannon

The Invitation by Nick Cannon

"The Invitation" is a hip hop diss track towards Eminem released by Nick Cannon with a guest feature from Suge Knight. [3][4]

Overview

Circumstances Behind Release

The Invitation was written as a direct response to Eminem’s verse on Fat Joe’s “Lord Above”. In the song, Eminem clowns Nick Cannon for his relationship with Mariah Carey and calls her a nutjob: [5][6]

"Word to the Terror Squad, Joe, this is all puns aside though.

I know me and Mariah didn’t end on a high note.

But that other dude’s whipped, that pussy got him neutered.

Tried to tell him this chick’s a nut job before he got his jewels clipped, almost got my caboose kicked, fool, quit, you not gon’ do shit.

I let her chop my balls off, too ‘fore I lost to you, Nick.”

Evolution Of The Feud

The feud stems back to 2002, shortly after Mariah Carey and Eminem supposedly ended a brief relationship. Eminem mentioned her on the track "Superman": [1] [7]

“What you trying be?

My new wife?

What, you Mariah?

Fly through twice."

He went on to mention her on the track "When The Music Stops", suggesting she was obsessed with him: [8]

"I done came way too far in this game to turn and walk away, and not say what I got to say.

What the f-ck you take me for a joke?

You smokin crack?

Before I do that, I'd beg Mariah to take me back"

Mariah Carey Denies Their Relationship

Not long after being mentioned by Eminem, Mariah Carey publicly denied they ever had a thing:

"I hung out with him, I spoke to him on the phone.

I think I was probably with him a total of four times.

And I don’t consider that dating somebody."

Mariah Carey Fires Back

On tour, Mariah's Marionette Show featured Eminem puppets and the song "Clown," from Carey's Charmbracelet album, had a couple of subliminal disses like:

"You should've never intimated we were lovers.

When you know very well we never even touched each other."

Eminem Stokes The Flames And 50 Cent Joins In

Eminem responded a couple of years later during his Anger Management Tour by playing voicemails that were allegedly from Mariah. He followed that up with the track "Jimmy Crack Corn," which had the lyrics:

"Your mind’s on us like mine’s on Mariah.

And y’all are just like her, you’re all fucking liars."

50 Cent then jumped into the beef with his track "All of Me," which accused Mariah Carey of lying:

"Em predicted it all, I don’t know how he knew it.

He said women from Hollywood they liars, liars, liars.

You f-ck them, they get you heated, deny it like Mariah."

Eminem Brings Nick Cannon Into The Feud

Eminem upped the ante in 2009 when he called out Nick Cannon on the track "Bagpipes from Baghdad,":

"Nick Cannon, I wish you luck with the f- cking whore"

The line prompted Nick Cannon to write an angry blog post which he deleted shortly after posting. [2]

Mariah Drops "Obsessed"

Mariah fired back with a song called "Obsessed" and its accompanying music video which featured a male stalker dressed in Eminem's trademark hooded sweatshirt. [9]

Eminem Releases "The Warning"

Mariah's track prompted Eminem to pen "The Warning", his most direct and aggressive take on the feud, with lyrics like:

"Shut the fuck up before I put up all the phone calls you made to my house when you were "Wild N' Out" before Nick, when you was on my dick and give you something to smile about."

In 2019, Nick Cannon told the ExpedeTIously podcast: [2]

"I think we was flying back on a jet from Africa or somewhere and this motherfucker drops a song, like, talking shit.

Calling [Mariah] all kinds of bitches and hoes.

I’m like, this is my wife.

This is my new wife.

I wrote a letter first, I don’t even know if Twitter had came out yet.

So, I wrote this long-ass letter pretty much saying, ‘Look, I respect you as an artist.

I’m actually a fan and I think you’re one of the best to ever do it.

But from man to man, you talking out of pocket to my wife.

You gotta be held accountable for that so I need to see you face-to-face.’"

Cannon even released his own diss track towards Eminem in 2010 called "I'ma Slick Rick" wchich targeted the rapper with lyrics like:

"See my name is slick rick not shady flake , I'm a mop you up with my wap like it's 88"

The Invitation

After appearing on the podcast ExpedeTIously, Nick Cannon decide to reignite the feud with Eminem and dropped "The Invitation", which features Suge Knight in the intro and outro and verses from Prince Eazy, Charlie Clips and Hitman Holla. Cannon first comes for Eminem's throat with the lines:

"Told Joe to lean back, don't get hit with this retaliation .

I fuck with Crack, but the white boy he fuck with crack (Crack) .

Pills and smack, shit, and he 'bout to relapse .

Call Kim, somebody get Hailie and that other kid you raisin', that ain't even your baby (Daddy).

Took a page out of Drake book, this might get a GRAMMY .

We goin' back to back 'til you respond on the family .

My baby mama killed you off a decade ago .

You're still cryin' about it, bitch, now who really the ho?"

He ended the verse by suggesting Em is secretly gay:

"I heard your chauffeur got a video of you suckin' a cock .

You paid him off, then laid him off, now who really the opp?

Suge called me the new 'Pac, I ain't no killer but don't push me .

How the fuck y'all got me battlin' Elvis Pussly?

Nigga"

Prince Eazy also hit him with a throwback to Mariah's diss track:

"Why Mariah name in your mouth?

.

You forty-seven chasin' clout .

"Obsessed" came out in '08 and you just puttin' some out?

(Damn) .

'Cause Marshall think he a ape, but he a white boy with a backpack .

I do this shit for my real niggas, not the white boys tryna act black,"

Eminem only responded via Twitter with the tweet: [10]

U mad bro?

Stop lying on my dick.

I never even had a chauffer you bougie f*ck.🤡"

He even poked fun at himself by saying: [10]

"I demand an apology Nicholas, you've made my gardener so jealous!"

50 Cent even chimed in with:

"I don’t understand to save my life why someone would pick a fight with EM.

He is a different kinda animal, I haven’t seen a motherfucker come close to beating him man.

Hey Nick that shit was trash, I oughta kick you in yo ass when I see you PUNK!"
