History

Brent Bolthouse, the creator of The Bungalow, was inspired by Baja California and the culture of California while developing the bar.
Bolthouse had found that many of his friends took inspiration from the East Coast when building their homes in California.
He instead wanted to use The Bungalow to celebrate California's culture of skateboarding , surfing and the beach .
The idea for the Bungalow began when Brent Bolthouse randomly met the property owners of the Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows , who told him that they had an interesting property in Santa Monica and asked if he would be interested in working on it.
Bolthouse had been to the Fairmont Miramar several times, and thought to himself, “Where could a cool bar be in the Fairmont?” Bolthouse ending up building a freestanding bungalow .
Design
The Bungalow is designed to evoke the feeling of a beach house party, with mismatched tables, chairs and couches.
In addition to the front deck with its fire pits , lush foliage and twinkling tree lanterns, the Bungalow also has a game room with a pool table, a private dining room , a back garden and a large main bar with high raftered ceilings.
Moroccan tile work, Mexican blankets , multiple fireplaces , whitewashed walls, French doors and custom brickwork complete the scene.
In an interview with Time Out , Brent Bolthouse said, "I had wanted to do this project for years and I brought in a design company, Studio Collective, who helped me bring this vision to life and did a great job finding and curating all the little tchotchkes .
Some stuff like the [private dining room ] table we made; others, we found at second-hand stores.
We found the decor everywhere—online, swap meets, some of it came from inventory from our events company’s warehouse ."
Music
All of the music playlists at the Bungalow were curated by its creator, Brent Bolthouse.
The playlists combine beach music , early Motown , 70s music , Bob Dylan , and 50s music like the early Beatles and Elvis .
In general, the songs played at the Bungalow are upbeat and happy, setting the tone for a good time.
