On October 9th, 2017, at around 8:00 p.m. at the Texas Tech police building at 43 Flint Avenue, a police officer was shot by a student named Hollis Daniels. ^[2]

Daniels was brought inside the Texas Tech Police Department after being found with evidence of drugs and drug paraphernalia during a welfare check in his dorm room.

Once at the PD building, Daniels pulled a gun and shot the officer, killing him.

The campus was on lockdown throughout the evening with students urged to take shelter in a safe location.

He fled from the scene in a vehicle, and was captured on the east side of Jones AT&T Stadium.
