One of the women implicated in the article, Sarah Isgur Flores, worked on contender Carly Fiorina's campaign.

The others are Amanda Carpenter- a former Communications Director for Ted Cruz - and Katrina Pierson, a spokesperson for Ted Cruz' rival Donald Trump.

The Enquirer ran poorly pixelated photos of the women it claimed were having affairs, but Twitter users claim to have identified them.

There is speculation that Cruz' affair with Flores is the reason a Cruz-affiliated SuperPAC mysteriously donated $500K to Carly Fiorina's campaign in 2015 - presumably as "hush money".

Ted Cruz contends that the article is completely a lie, and that it was set of by his rival Donald Trump.

Further adding to the intrigue is the fact that a Cruz staffer's email was contained within the Ashley Madison data dump, a security breach which supposedly revealed a lot of people looking for extramarital affairs.
