Zarak moved to New York in 2004 and began her career at Tribeca Films, Robert De Niro's production company. Through the years Zarak has worked in the development and production of films such as Pan's Labyrinth, The Departed , and an adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez's News of a Kidnapping . She served as Executive Director of Argos Cine up until 2009 when she founded Bonita Films. 
She worked in 2018 as a manager in Netflix’s international originals division.

On Tuesday April 2, 2019, Zarak filed a lawsuit against Netflix, alleging that she was fired after she announced her pregnancy. After she disclosed her pregnancy in early November 2018, Zarak stated she found herself cut out of meetings. She also alleges that her supervisor, Francisco Ramos, began to ignore her communications, and made deprecating remarks about her appearance.
