was an Indian politician, Philosopher and Philanthropist from Tamil Nadu widely acknowledged as in Indian social service during 1940s. He
was involved in the Indian independence movement. He
is still remembered, for Constructed schools and Convents in and around Kallakurichi taluk along with Rev.Fr.PERE DI
Elbreil. He was
awarded Gold medal by the Indian Government for his service against Untouchability.
== Early life == S.V.S.
Rathinam was born on 16 October 1908 to Savarimuthu and Mary from an Indian Christian family nearby Thirukovilur in Tamil Nadu.
===Ancestors=== His forefather’s are Saiva siddhanta philosophers.
His fore father Kumara Swamy Desikar was born in a town called Kanchipuram Thondai mandalamin Tamil Nadu, South India into an orthodox Saiva Tamil (Desikar) family around 17th Century.
He was a respectable Spiritual leader.
Kumara swamy Desikar was the archaka and dikshithar for the People of Thondai mandalam.He
left his family and gone to Thiruvannamalai with his disciples. There
he planned to become a Sage.But it
failed. God made
him to get married. He got
three sons and a daughter.Siva prakasar,Velaiyar, Karunai
prakasar and Gnambikai ammal are his children.
Siva prakasar First Great Grand father of S.V.S.Rathinam,the real poet was honoured as ‘Sivanuputhichelvar’ by Sree Balya Swamigal.
He is acclaimed as ‘Karpanai Kalangiyam’ by renowned scholars of Tamil – speaking world.
He compiled " Neerotta Yamaha Anthathi " to defeat the arrogant Poet.
Those verses will not make both lips touch.
And also written Nanneri, Naalvar Naan Mani Maalai, " Yesu Matha Niragaranam " (The Refuting the Religion of Jesus)...Like wise more than Thirty four books.He
attain mukthi motcha in at his 32 age in Nallathur,near Pondicherry.
Karunai prakasar get married.
And he wrote more than five books in Tamil.
Seegalathi sarukkam, Ishtalinga Agaval.
He demised at Thiruvengai.
Gnambiki Ammal married Perur Santhalinga Swamigal.
After he became a sage, he sent her back to her brothers.
Velaiyar Grand father of Susai alias Swaminatha desikar married Meenatchi Ammal.He
got a son named Sundaresanar.Velaiyar wrote
more than seven books. Mayilathula, Nallur
puranam, Mayilai thirattai mani maalai, Ishta linga kaithala maalai, Kumbakona Sarangathevar history as Veera singhathana puranam, Gugai Namachivaya Desikar history as Namchivaya leelai and Krisnanan history as Paarijatha leelai.And attain mukthi
motchaat Perumathur at the age of seventy two.
There were no children for Karunai Prakasar and Gnambikai ammal.
Velaiyar family only yielded a child.Velaiyar’s
son, Sundaresanar married Karpagammal. He
settled down his family in Valavanur. They
got a son named Swaminatha Desikar.Swaminatha Desikar,
Grand father of S.V.S.Rathinam, converted himself to Christianity,changed his name as Susai Alias Swaminatha Desikar and married Gnasounthari. They got
two sons and one daughter named as Savarimuthu, Gnana muthu and Rakkini.Savarimuthu married Mary
from Penang. They got two
son’s named as S.V.S.Rathinam and Ponnuthambi. S.V.S.Rathinam married Savariammal
in 1929. R.Theresanathan is the
elder son to them.
In this cycle, their ancestors mixed with all breeds (castes) without any exception.Hence
after Susai, the whole family group termed as "Indian Christian’s from Susai family" or "Susai
Vagayiara".

He resigned the teaching post then became a Railway Recruiting officer and supported the deprived community.
As a Military Recruiting officer, he recruited and sent more than five hundred people for the army.

He received gold medal from President of India for working against Untouchability.
He converted more than a Ten thousand people into Christianity from various areaa as a lay man along with Rev.Fr.PERE

Elbareil, a MEP (Society of Foreign Missions of Paris) Priest came to India from Montauban,France. He arrived
Pondicherry (city)|Pondicherry missionary 22 May 1935. He had
chosen Kallakurichi taluk to start his religious service. While he
came to Kallakurichi, S.V.S. Rathinam served
as a Head Master at Ulagankathan school. S.V.S. Rathinam,
left
his Government job and became Rev.Fr.PERE DI Elbareil’s
disciple. Along with him,
he constructed more than seven convents, two orphanages and twelve schools. Rev.Fr.PERE DI Elbareil
babtised
more than Ten thousand people to catholic Christian community around kallakurichi and virudhachalam taluk along with him. They released more than
two hundred families from bonded slavery. Rev.Fr.Pere Di Elbreil left
India
on 17 January 1947.
== Start in politics and freedom struggle == As a Social Philontherapist and Social Reformer, he joined Congress Party and fought for the freedom along with the patriots.
==With Perunthalaivar Kamaraj== S.V.S.Rathinam's political guru and inspiration was Kamarajar.

Rathinam, was personally well known to Perunthalaivar Kamaraj.S.V.Rathinam
also oneamong them wall to construct Komugi dam near by Kallakurichi.
==With Mr.L.Elaya
perumal== S.V.S.Rathinam, use to club with Mr.L.Illaya Perumal,
formal Congress Committee Leader There social activities against Untouchability is immeasurable. In 1948,
both of them are honoured and rewarded Gold Medal by the Government for their social service against untouchability.Elaya perumal joined
the army in 1945. Returning to Kattumannarkoil
in 1946, he was involved in an unexpected struggle. Coming across a
Dalit who had been severely beaten by his mirasdar for not going to work for two days, Elaya perumal took the victim to the police station but the police refused to register a case against the landlord. Soon, thousands of
Dalits gathered. Finally the collector
ordered the landlord to pay Rs 100 as a compensation.This sort of incidences
made him a leader of the untouchables. Many struggles in and
around Chidambaram with focus on education and fair wages for landless labourers, the abolition of "degrading jobs" imposed on Dalits-drum beating, removing dead animals,crematorium work was taken up. He campaigned against beef-eating
in 1946. Infuriated, the Caste Hindus
foisted a false case against him and he was imprisoned for six months.He was elected to the
first Parliament in 1952 on a Congress ticket from Chidambaram.He was a disciple of Swami
Sahajananda, a Shaivite scholar and prominent Dalit leader.In 1910, Sahajananda started a school for
untouchable children in Chidambaram. He established the Nandanar Educational Society in

was appointed the Chairman of the
first ever national committee to inquire the educational and economic condition of the untouchables. He toured extensively, and submitted his report 'Untouchability:
Economic and Educational Development of Scheduled Castes' offering valuable recommendations for the uplift of the untouchables.
