Susanne Tarkowski Tempelhof is Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Bitnation, an Ethereum-based alternative to the prevailing nation-state model of governance described as the world's first "cryptonation". Tempelhof divides her time between Amsterdam, Netherlands and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. ^[1]

Tempelhof was born in Sweden to French and Polish parents who were stateless for many years, which was a key motivating factor for her later work.

After beginning her career in journalism and the arts, Tempelhof worked for a succession of US defense contractors in countries such as Afghanistan and Libya, where she witnessed firsthand the failures of the nation-state model and where her interest in decentralization was piqued. It was after Tempelhof learned about Bitcoin that she was inspired to create Bitnation in 2014 and where she is building the Pangea Jurisdiction, an Ethereum-based mobile app in which users (citizens) can execute smart contracts for everything from identification to welfare services and diplomacy. ^[1]
