Stephen Richard Berger (September 30, 1973 - October 1, 2017) [1] was an award-winning financial planner from Shorewood, Minnesota. He was one of the dozens who were fatally shot during the Mandalay Bay Resort Shooting in Las Vegas.
Personal Life
Steve Berger was raised in Wisconsin.
He went to Wauwatosa West High School, where he was a standout basketball player and straight-A student. He went on to graduate from St. Olaf College in 1995.
He was married at one point, but later divorced.
He was also father of three: two daughters and a son.
His father, Richard Berger, recalls Steve taking his kids to school in the morning and soccer practice in the evening.
While being a full-time father, he also ran a successful financial planning business during the day.
Steve also volunteered regularly as a BestPrep teacher.
Professionally, he was a recipient of multiple industry awards; he is a four-time winner of the Five Star Wealth Manager Award.
According to Steve Berger's father said he will miss talking to his son about stocks.
In his spare time, Steve was an avid Fisherman.
Death
On October 1, 2017, Berger was fatally shot while attending the Route 91 Harvest music festival. He was among the 59 killed during the Mandalay Bay Resort mass shooting.
He was celebrating his birthday with some friends, including his college friend Josh Decker and Decker's girlfriend.
