Stacey Konwiser was a longtime zookeeper and lover of animals.
She was employed at Palm Beach Zoo for three years. Konwiser dedicated her life to her mission of protecting endangered species. [1]
At Palm Beach Zoo she was known as the "Tiger Whisperer".
Death
On April 15, 2016 Konwiser passed away after being mauled by a Malayan tiger at Palm Beach Zoo. The attack took place just before 1:45 p.m., inside a contained area where the tigers sleep.
The death was the first at the hands of an animal in the history of the zoo.
Police said they tranquilized the tiger but had to wait for the drugs to take effect to safely treat Konwiser, who was transported to St. Mary's Medical Center.
