Stacey Ervin
Stacey Ervin (born October 21, 1993) is an American gymnast and professional wrestler based in Spring, Texas. He is in a relationship with Olympic Gold medalist Simone Biles. [3] [7] [6][20]
Education
Ervin attended Harry S. Truman High School (Taylor, Michigan) from 200-2011. [12] He then went on to attend the University of Michigan where he studied psychology and was part of the NCAA champion gymnastics team, placing third on floor exercise. [12] [7][2]
Career
After graduating from University of Michigan, Ervin was working as an Oracle customer success manager in Austin, Texas. Getting frustrated with working at a desk all day, Stacey interviewed with Nellie Biles and became a coach, and later a director, at World Champions Centre in Spring, Texas. A few months later Stacey was officially in a relationship with Nellie Biles' daughter, Simone Biles. [18]
He participated in American Ninja Warrior season 9 and made it to the fourth obstacle. [17]
Stacey Ervin was signed to the WWE's NXT wrestling by Triple H following his tryout in February of 2018. He made his television debut on February 23rd 2019 in a tag team match with Humberto Carrillo against the Street Profits. It turned out to be his only television match after he suffered a belly-to-back suplex that landed wrong. While he wasn't seriously injured, it made Ervin reconsider a career in professional wrestling. He told NBC Sports: [18]
"I made a 17-year gymnastics career and pretty successfully walked away with no injuries that would impair me to function at any other level, it occurred to me that the risk versus reward through my path at WWE just wasn’t worth it to me personally. I felt there were other ways for me to achieve my personal vision without risking life and limb"
Since then, he's transitioned his persona, “The Wave”, into a lifestyle mentor brand.
His Instagram has netted over 190,000 followers and he sells instructional workout videos. Stacey has been featured on People, E! News, Entertainment Tonight, WWE Network and several other media outlets. He hosts his own podcast called "Riding The Wave With Stacey Ervin". [18][7][19]
Personal Life
Stacey Ervin grew up in Taylor, Michigan with three siblings: Danielle, Drake and Katrina. He was a bit of a gymnastics prodigy and got into the sport at age 7-8 when his mother saw him run with ease across a balance beam at a recreational center. He wound up at the Michigan Academy of Gymnastics, got profiled by the Detroit News at age 12 and became U.S. junior champion on vault at age 16. Sadly, his mother passed way from T-cell lymphoma when he was a freshmen in college. While he remembers it as a difficult time in his life, his gymnastics team helped him through the dark times. [18]
Stacey has a couple of tattoos such as a cross on his left ribcage wrapped in a ribbon beneath the word “Mom" and the Michigan gymnastics team’s mantra—“The strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack”—from Rudyard Kipling‘s "The Law of the Jungle” on the right side of his chest.
Over Thanksgiving the two of them flew to Belize for a romantic getaway. They documented the trip extensively on Instagram, Stacey said about it: [39]
“To say I am grateful for you would be an understatement.
Spending the last week together in a tropical paradise was absolutely amazing.
Truth be told, anywhere together is our paradise – even in the cold…I love you, & know I’ve got your back (in this case, your bottom) through it all.”
