Sophie Alpert

Sophie Alpert is a transgender software engineer based in Menlo Park, California. She is the former manager of React at Facebook. [1] [2]

Career

Prior to joining Facebook in January 2015, Alpert was a software engineer at Khan Academy from September 2012 until December 2014. She de signed and developed a math question editor allowing content creators to embed interactive widgets, used by 40+ content creators to write thousands of interactive problem sets.

She also co-created KaTeX, a fast, open-source JavaScript library for displaying print-quality mathematics. Alpert also improved the frontend tooling for the website by introducing React, creating reusable core user interface components, and planned a migration to a require()-based module system.

Alpert currently has over 5,000 followers on GitHub and has pushed most commits to the library than any other developer.
