Simon Serfaty is a Moroccan-American Geopolitical Analyst and Professor. Simon Serfaty is based in Washington D.C. In July 2008, Nicolas Sarkozy named him a Knight of the Legion of Honor, France’s highest civilian medal.

Simon Serfaty was born in Casablanca, Morocco, immigrated to the United States, and became a citizen in 1965. He earned his Master's in International Relations and his Doctor of Philosophy from The Johns Hopkins University.

From 1972 to 1993, Simon was a research professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, D.C., serving as director of the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) Bologna Center in Bologna, Italy (1972–1976), director of the Washington Center of Foreign Policy Research (1978–1980), and executive director of the Johns Hopkins Institute for Policy Studies (1984–1991). ^[1]

Simon joined Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia in 1993 and was associated with the Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS), a leading think tank in Washington, DC. ^[1] He was designated an Eminent Scholar by ODU 10 years later. In 2003, he became the first holder of the Zbigniew Brzezinski Chair in Global Security and Geostrategy at CSIS. In addition, he was the director of the CSIS Europe Program for more than 10 years and remains a senior adviser to the program. In addition, Simon is a senior professor of U.S. foreign policy with the Graduate Programs in International Studies at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. ^[1]

Serfaty is the author of more than a dozen books, including, most recently, “A World Recast” (2013) and “Un monde nouveau en manque d’Amérique” (Odile Jacob, 2014).

Other books he has written include “Architects of Delusion” (2008), “Vital Partnership” (2005), and “La tentation impériale” (2004), among many others.

Simon has written over 100 articles and essays that have appeared in most leading journals on both sides of the Atlantic.

He is also the editor of numerous multi-authored books and the main author of a large number of policy reports from a variety of think tanks.

His books have been translated in Arabic, Spanish, and Japanese.

Simon has spoke in over 40 countries around the globe and testified in front of US Congress as well as national legislative bodies in Europe. He is or has been a board member of a number of professional journals and some think tanks.
