Show Dem Camp (SDC) is a Nigerian rap duo group that consists of two men named Ghost (Olumide Ayeni) and Tec (Wale Davies). Their sound consists of hiphop, afrobeats and the new sound known as alte vibes.
Both members of the group were born in Nigeria but have lived in various countries such as UK, Ireland, Amsterdam and the US before they returned to Lagos to pursue their dreams of music career.
The duo have made major waves in the Nigerian music industry, bringing a different tone and vibe to Afrobeats with a mix of Hiphop.
Career
2010-present
The Show Dem Camp (SDC) group started their career in 2010 with two street release mixtapes titled : Clone Wars Volume 1 & 2, both eps were immensely successful and further encouraged them to release their debut album in 2011 titled ‘The Dreamer Project’, the album was described as "a lyrically poignant, emotionally candid musical account of the multiple journeys of dreamers- notably those wanting to escape their current circumstances through the pursuit of seemingly unattainable goals".
The debut album generated a lot of hit singles such as "The Dreamer" featuring famous Nigerian rapper M.I Abaga & Abasa, "Talk About It" featuring 2face Idibia, and "Farabalé", the songs were followed with music videos which depicted the breadth and depth of life in Lagos. After the release of their debut album, Show Dem Camp (SDC) has toured and performed in 3 different continents and earned commendations internationally with reviews following their performance headline with African icon 2face Idibia at his comeback concert in the UK in 2011.
In 2013, Show Dem Camp released a new single titled "Feel Alright" the single was described as a simple, feel good vibe which featured upcoming artists in Nigeria and the afrobeats scene at the time; the music group named DRB, solo artiste Boj and eloquent rapper Poe.
The single which was produced by Ghana’s DJ Juls, marked a turning point in the evolution of SDC’s sound as it uniquely fused modern hip-hop drums over a the rich sound African percussions and live instruments.In
2014 the group once again released a hit single titled "Happy Weekend Sir" which addressed the normalcy of bribery in Nigeria in a humorous tone and in 2015, the duo joined a couple of artists to form The Collective (stylised as The Collectiv3)
The group ( The Collectiv3) released an album titled "The Collectiv3 LP" which was released on October 1, 2015, in honor of Nigeria's fifty-fifth (55th) year of independence.
Its groups members included artistes like Funbi, Temi Dollface, rapper Poe, Show Dem Camp, guitarist/producer Nsikak and producers IKON and Kid Konnect.The
goal and hope of the group was to provide an alternative to Nigeria's mainstream music industry, "The Collectiv3 LP" also served as a platform for artists whose interpretation and expression of Africanism in music is intentionally unique and designed to evoke strong emotions while still being enertaining and pleasing to listen to. The
album review by the entertainment website "Pulse" described their album as "melodiously maverick."
As a continuation of their Clone Wars series the rap duo released their third mixtape in 2016 titled "Clone Wars 3: The Recession" it was released on the last day of 2016 and was described as a mixtape in honor of their fans.
The 12 track project was a huge success hit with songs like "Rise of the Underdog", "Respect My Name" ft Ikon, "10,000" and "Live, Love, Laugh, Eat" featuring Sir Dauda, the mixtape was desribed in a review as a "timeless masterpiece"
In 2017 the duo released a new album titled "Palmwine Music", released in middle of the year and was seen as a new sound for the group but successful nonetheless ''Palmwine Music 1'' was considered as the 'bringing it home' project, the album was heavily influenced by local sounds with a careful selection of perfect collaborators in the likes of Funbi, Ikon, Ajebutter22, Odunsi (The Engine), and Tomi Thomas who influenced the alté sound into the rap duo's sound for the better. The album although considered different from the duo's original sound was accepted with open arms by the audience and kickstarted the beginning of their annual concert/festival called the Palmwine Fest, with their hit songs in the album like "Up To You" featuring Funbi, "Popping" featuring Odunsi (The Engine) and Boj and "What You Want" featuring Tomi Thomas being performed.The festival has been used as an avenue for the duo and their featuring artistes to spread their brand to a young and vibrant audience and also encourage the growth of the "Chill music" / "Alté" sub-genre. The festival is held late December of every year in Lagos and consists of amazing headline artistes who are usually featured in the duo's albums.
In 2018 the duo released another album which served as the sequel to the first Palmwine Music album titled "Palmwine Music 2" The album served as continuation of the vibe provided in the first Palmwine album; carefree yet compact, easy on the ears yet deeply intriguing to unravel, and strengthens their discography.
Just like the first album, Palmwine Music 2 consisted of beautiful hits and collaborations with nigerian artistes such as "Legend" featuring Burna Boy, "System Fail" featuring Nonso Amadi, "Tropicana" featuring Flash, "Damilohun" featuring Boj and Ajebutter22 and many more amazing hits, all in all the album was described as "excellently put together and enjoyable".
In early 2019 the rap duo released another mixtape under The Clone Wars series titled "The Clone Wars IV: These Buhari Times".
The mixtape series is said to serve as a reminder of the duo's original sound; hiphop with powerful stories touching on political and socio-conscious issues.
The mixtape also produced various hits such as "Shadow of Doubt" featuring Tems, "Respect,Loyalty and Honour" featuring M.I Abaga, "Daude" featuring Cina Soul, and "No White Flags" featuring Phlow and Rotex.
Later on in December 2019 the duo released another Palmwine album titled "The Palmwine Express" which increased the excitement for their festival later on in that month, the album just like all the others consisted of star studded collaborations and major hits with various Nigerian artistes such as "Good Time" featuring Funbi and Nonso Amadi, "Do Me Nice" featuring Buju, "Too Bad" featuring Amaarae and Tems, "True Story" featuring Burna Boy and many more. The album was explosive hit and described as an amazing way to end the year for the duo.
No albums have been released in the present year of 2020 yet.
