Shirin Ghaffary (Farsi: شيرين غغارى) is a general assignment reporter at Recode as well as co-host of YouTube series Above The Noise **** from PBS Digital Studios and KQED.
Ghaffary is based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Education
Ghaffary graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in International Economics and English Literature.
Ghaffary served as a reporter and editor for campus newspaper The Daily Californian and undertook internships at the San Jose Mercury News, TechCrunch, and The Wall Street Journal.
Career
After graduating from Berkeley, Ghaffary briefly worked as an editorial intern at the San Francisco Chronicle and then as a reporting fellow at the Orange County Register.
From 2014 to 2017 Ghaffary was a Business Analyst at enterprise software startup Elementum SCM and subsequently leveraged her experience in technology when she returned to journalism in late 2016, first as Associate Producer and co-host of Above The Noise from PBS Digital Studios and KQED.
Following her departure from Elementum in 2017, Ghaffary worked briefly at BuzzFeed and then joined the staff of Recode later that year.
