Shiok Meats is a cell-based clean meat company employing cellular agriculture to produce seafood and meats.[2]


The company's mission is to bring delicious, clean and healthy seafood and meats by harvesting from cells instead of animals. Shiok Meats will produce cell-based crustacean meats (shrimp, crab, lobster). "Shiok" in Singapore and Malay slang means "fantastic" and "delicious".[1]

In spring 2019, Shiok Meats has completed a $4.6 million seed funding round led by investors Monde Nissin CEO Henry Soesanto, Y Combinator and Tyson Foods -backed Big Idea Ventures. Shiok will use the proceeds of their seed round to invest more in research and development, as well as adding on bioprocess engineers. They expect to scale production in 2-3 years, enabling them to deliver their goodies globally for public consumption.[3] Prior to that, the company has raised pre-seed financing from investors like AIIM Partners, Boom Capital, and Ryan Bethencourt.[5]

Shiok showcased their first ever cell-based Shiok Shrimp dumpling at The Disruption in Food and Sustainability Summit (DFSS) on March 29, 2019 at the Grand Hyatt Singapore.[3]

The company was founded by Sandhya Sriram and Ka Yi Ling in 2018.[4]
