Shooting of Jeremy Lakes
Report of the trial involving for the death Jeremy Lake which involves Shannon Kepler.
On August 4th, 2014, his daughter Lisa and her boyfriend, Jeremy Lakes, were walking together near Lakes' home when the Keplers rolled up in their black Chevrolet Suburban SUV. When Shannon approached his daughter she walked away leaving Jeremy Lakes behind. Lakes then walked over to the black SUV
and as he offered to shake hands, Shannon shot him thinking Lakes was going to use a gun.
The Keplers were concerned for their daughter for they had kicked her out of the home and had seen her on and off homeless shelters.
Shannon later learned that Lisa started dating someone named Jeremy Lakes.
According to an investigation conducted by prosecutors, it was as if the Keplers hunted down Lakes.
After Shannon shot him, they left him to die - they never called 911 or attempted to give medical attention to Lake.
Kepler turned himself in about 2½ hours after the shooting, and retired from the force after being charged.
Court Trial

Daughter of officers Shannon Kepler, Gina Kepler talks about events leading up to boyfriend's murder.
In the three previous trials before his conviction which happened in November, February and July, were all declared mistrials after they ended with hung juries.
Each trial was tinged with racial overtones and civil rights activists accused Kepler’s lawyers of trying to minimize the number of black jurors.
Each of the three hung juries had only one African American juror.
At the trial, investigators later recovered a copy of a police report from an incident that took place when Lake was a minor.
Lake’s address and presumed race — black — were written on the back.
Jurors deliberated about six hours before finding ex-Tulsa officer Shannon Kepler, 57, guilty of the lesser charge in the August 2014 killing of 19-year-old Jeremey Lake, who had just started dating Kepler's then-18-year-old daughter, Lisa.
