Shaden Mohamed Al-Gohari was a 22-year-old Egyptian student who lived in Germany. ^[8]She went to school at the Brandenburg University of Technology. ^[12]

On the evening of April 15, 2017, Shaden was waiting at a tram stop in the town of Cottbus. She stepped onto the street and was hit by a vehicle that was going 30kph. Shaden died three days later. ^[12]

A week later, a witness came forward saying that her death was the result of a hate crime. Two men allegedly came out of the vehicle and told Shaden while she was injured that she should "fuck off back to her own country" and a "fucking asylum seeker." ^[10]

Yet, contradictory to that testimony, a close friend of Shaden posted on Facebook that her death was a pure hit-and-run and the friends that were with Shaden never mentioned anything about racism. ^{[0] [2] [4] [5]}The incident is still being investigated by the authorities. ^[12]
