Scout Schultz was an American college student at Georgia Tech and was President of the school's Pride Alliance. On September 16, 2017, Schultz was killed after a confrontation with police.
Life and Activities
Early Life and Education
Scout Schultz grew up around the United States but considered their hometown to be Lilburn, Georgia. In high school, Schultz played Dungeons and Dragons and participated in events throughout college. Schultz attended Georgia Tech, where they majored in Computer Engineering and minored in Biomedical Engineering. After college, Scout Schultz intended to work with medical devices.
Pride Alliance
An active part of the LGBTQ community, Scout Schultz was President of the Pride Alliance of Georgia Tech and described themselves as "bisexual, nonbinary, and intersex." They were the driving force behind the Pride Alliance's activities the past two years. Scout is remembered for being " fun-loving, intelligent, caring, empathetic, and passionate."
Death
Moment Scout Schultz was shot dead
On the evening of September 16, 2017, at around 11 pm, Schultz was carrying a knife in the area of 8th street on the Georgia Tech campus.
Police instructed Schultz to drop the knife, but Schultz did not comply and continually walked towards the officers.
At one point, Schultz said "shoot me!" An officer replied, "Nobody wants to hurt you, man.
Drop the knife."
Moments later, an officer shot Scout.
They were sent to the hospital where they died from their injuries.
