The **Wikipedia photo edit of the Scottish National Antarctic Expedition ** refers to a series of caption changes that took place between December 13-14, 2016.

Information about the Photo

The photo is of Gilbert Kerr dressed in a full black Highland dress, and black boots standing next to a an emperor penguin in Antarctica. Kerr was a member of a ship named Scotia (previously named Hekla) on the Scottish National Antarctic Expedition of 1902-1904. [4]Kerr was the official piper of the expedition. The penguin was tethered to a large cooking pot packed full of snow. [4]

The bagpipes in the photograph were given by William Bruce (Gilbert Kerr's assistant) to the 1st Edinburgh Battalion of the Royal Scots in 1914. Piper Anderson played them in the Battle of the Somme and lost them sometime during the battle. [4]

This photograph was made into a postcard and became one of the first items ever to be posted from Antarctica.
