Scott Martella was a communications director for executive Steve Bellone in Hauppauge, New York.
Background
Martella was destined to have a future in politics for all of the effort and work that he put into as a policy advisor and field director for various campaigns.
[1] For almost three years he was the aide to Governor Andrew Cuomo.
He propsed to his High School sweetheart, Shelbi Thurau, in the same theatre where they met each other for the first time, at Smithtown High School.
Education
He is a graduate of Smithtown High School.
He received his B.A. from Boston University. At 22, he became the youngest school board member in the history of Smithtown schools. He was elected to the school board in 2009 and became vice president after working on the State Senate campaign of Democrat Brian X. Foley.
Long Island Crash
On August 21st, 2016, a car got out of control and veered into oncoming traffic colliding into several cars.
The crash on the Long Island highway took the lives of 5 people and injured 6 others. Martella was one of the people who died, and his wife survived the crash suffering severe injuries. The lanes were closed down for about nine hours.
Cuomo said the following: "Scott was a dedicated, beloved public servant who worked day in and day out to improve the lives of his fellow New Yorkers.
Scott was always full of big ideas to help solve the toughest challenges of the day, and he was deeply respected for his strong work ethic, candor and fighting spirit.
Long Island is a better place today because of his service and dedication to the community."
