Scooby Nero born 7th November 1985 also known as Anthony Chukwuma Onwubuariri better known by his stage which is styled as 'ScoobyNero' is a South Africa based Nigerian award-winning multi-genre artist. ScoobyNero was born in Warri Local Government of Delta State and raised in Lagos Nigeria. He was a devout student of Imagneto Dance Academy as well as at Jigga Boxing Foundation. He first appeared as a dancer for RuggedMan, American Superstar LL Cool J and Akon in the Star Mega Jam 2006 in Nigeria. ScoobyNero started recording as an artist in November 2012 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Born to be an entertainer the young dynamic talent has caught the attention of many A-list African artist who he has worked just with Kwesta, MarazA, AB Crazy, Blaklez, Emmy Gee, Nadia Nakai, Eindo, Bolo Jay, Sean Pages,MoonChild Sanelly, Buffalo Souljah, and recently the beautiful Gigi Lamayne to mention a few. These songs are topping charts in most regions of the African continent with videos and audio playing on South Africa’s top radio stations as well as the hit single Washkalakunda filling our screens. Just when you think that is it, the talented African artist released his own clothing line called "SCOOBY WEARS“ catering with a “swag” for all Male and females. Scooby Nero was born to the family of Onwubuariri on the 7th of November 1985 in a local government area in Nigeria called Warri which is situated at the southern region of Nigeria. Scooby is known to have siblings who are really not publicised as he likes to keep his life private. Scooby Nero started his life in Nigeria before relocating to South Africa for greener pastures. He was breed in Warri, this involves his schooling and a bit of his professional career. He is known to be very versatile in nature as he is very physical, he shines alot of positivity. Scooby Nero is a dark slim and muscular fitted Nigerian man, he stands out because of his handsome face and his height. He moved to South Africa after his college days to further his music career. Online information have it that he went to South Africa to study an aspect of music to strengthen his already God given talent. His music style is a fusion of the Nigerian Afro pop genre with that of Southern Africa Deep house. This sound combination is so amazing that his songs are played as arty bangers on the airways of not just African stations but the world entirely. In an interview with Scooby by Vanguard Newspaper Nigeria, he said growing up in a place like Warri - Nigeria will toughen your whole entire been, he laid emphasis on how living your day to day life is already a tussle talk less of trying to be a musican with alot of many rivals as Warri is a place with various and good talents. Warri is seen as a talent fishing hub for most entrepreneurs in Nigeria, but then in the showbiz business, people who come in form of trying to help you end up being the ones who drain you, which is why Scooby took the big step of making himself better in his sound, refining it and making it stand out before flagging his own record label, and in no time his sound was played across all shores as a night life vibe or for personal enjoyment. The sound created by Scooby Nero is a mix of Afropop, Hip hop & House music. Scoobys sound has received positive critical reviews and gained extensive airplay in South Africa and Nigeria. ScoobyNero has caught the attention of many with his fusion of music that has reached the top of the charts in many regions of the African continent. The artist broke out onto the music scene in Johannesburg in 2012, and thanks to his passion and dedication to music has worked with artists like Kwesta, Emmy Gee, Nadia Nakai and Buffalo Soulja and grown his profile to become one of the hottest Nigerian performers to grace SA’s shores. His career in entertainment actually started as a dancer where he worked for the likes of Ruggedman, the American Superstar, LL Cool K, and Akon. At the time he went by the nickname Tony Tonero but used to count as he did a dance move and use the word Scooby - which eventually earned him the name ScoobyNero. The artist has recently added a clothing line for men and women to his repertoire called SCOOBYWEARS - proving his versatility.[3]
RISE TO FAME
Scooby Nero, in an interview with Vanguard Nigeria Newspaper explains his encounter in creating music and how he rose to the stage he is now as not just a music artist but also an entertainer and business man;
- What were some of the things you thought you would encounter in making music outside your comfort zone? "Well I never knew the difference, as I discovered my talent and love for music outside my comfort zone; that to say “I really don’t know”. As you may know I was born in Nigeria but based in South Africa almost all my life was spent there, so I really think am in my comfort zone cause South Africa is like my second home"[3]
- Do you see yourself settling in the music industry, much longer? "Yes I do and will, it’s what I love doing and its gives me joy, An in addition to that I noticed the more I’m consistent with it the more I become a PRO at it."[3]
BREAKTHROUGH
Nobody (2016): His debut single "Nobody" featuring. Dj Dimplez an award winning DJ best known for Rands and Nairas. "Nobody" was released on August 23, 2016. The music video for "Nobody" was shot in South Africa and directed by "Studios Space Picture". The single garnered over 100,000 downloads in just three weeks and gain airplay on YFM. [6]
Washkalakunda (2017): ScoobyNero's debut single "Washkalakunda" was released on January 23, 2016. The music video for "Washkalakunda" was shot in South Africa and directed by "Studios Space Picture". In March 10, 2017, he released the remix of "Washkalakunda" featuring. "Gigi Lamayne", "Maraza", "AB Crazy" & "MIZDEE". The music video for "Washkalakunda (Remix)" was shot in South Africa and directed by "SOS". The single received generally positive feedback from music critics, who favoured the track as one of Scooby Nero's best songs. "Washkalakunda" peaked at number one on Nigeria's & South Africa's "Top Ten South Africa Chart", compiled by Soundcity TV. The song was also aired on Vuma FM, VOW FM, UJFM, TUT FM 96.2, Radio Helderberg, North West FM, Mosupatsela FM, Capricorn FM, Bush Radio and so on.[7]
