Sarah Root was a Council Bluffs, Iowa resident and graduate of Bellevue University.

Death

On January 31, 2016 Root was killed in a car crash when Eswin Mejia, an illegal immigrant, spammed his pickup into the back of Root's SUV that had stopped near 33rd and L street.

Eswin Mejia was drunk and street racing another vehicle when the crash occurred.

[5]Mejia's blood alcohol content was.241, four times the legal limit to drive.

He was also driving on a suspended license and had been released by authorities despite his immigration status.
