Sanjay Valvani was a 44 year old portfolio manager at Visium Asset Management. Valvani grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Education

Sanjay Valvani started his undergraduate education at the University of Michigan, then transferred to the The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to study Health Policy & Administration. After graduating, Valvani spent four years working as a health care consultant in Chicago, Illinois and San Francisco, California before attending The Fuqua School of Business at Duke University and looking to transition to Wall Street.

Insider Trading

In early June 2016, Sanjay Valani was charged with the crime of insider trading and turned himself in.

He is said to have made 25 million dollars using the insider trading Knowledge.

Sanjay was paying a former Food and Drug Administration official to tap a colleague, still at the FDA, for an inside line on generic drug approvals.

The scheme was discovered on a probe to see if Visium was inflating returns.

Death

On June 21, 2016 one week after being charged with insider trading, Sanjay was found dead by his wife. Sanjay left a suicide note and the case is being investigated.
