On December 23, 2016, Dennis was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox eastbound on Route 58 when it abruptly stopped in the middle of the highway as it came upon a DUI checkpoint. ^[0]

She then made an abrupt U-turn and began driving west in the eastbound lane travel lane to avoid the checkpoint. The westbound Chevrolet then struck head-on an eastbound 2007 Dodge Magnum, driven by a mother of two, Rebecca W. Starling, killing her at the scene. ^[0]

Dennis was transported to a local hospital, where she was treated for injuries and released.

^[0]She was then taken to Southwest Virginia Regional jail in Duffield, Virginia, where she is being held without bond. ^[0]

Dennis has been charged with felony murder and felony elude. ^[0]
