In June 2016 she trended in the news for being banned from Facebook. A named, who goes by James, sent Samantha a string a pictures of his penis along with a message stating, "I'm not gay, and you're a girl so you should like it." James allegedly found Samantha off of a review of a cafe she posted online.
Mawdsley replied to him with a slew of other pictures of men's penises she found online and then posted his picture online.
Facebook in turn banned her account.
She received international praise for her actions in support of women's rights.
