Ryan Payne, 32, is a key planner of the occupation who earned the trust of the Bundy family by responding quickly to their call for help during the 2014 standoff in Nevada.

He founded Operation Mutual Aid, a coalition of militias and patriot-movement sympathizers that was influential in drawing supporters to the Bunkerville ranch.

Payne was also among the ATV-riding protesters at southeastern Utah's Recapture Canyon in 2014 and helped organize the group that protested the December 2015 arrest of another Bunkerville veteran, Schuyler Barbeau, in Washington.

Payne is an Iraq War veteran who served in an army long-range surveillance unit.

He has two children and lives in Montana.
