Ron Trevino is one of KHOU's award-winning journalists. He has been an anchor (reporter) at KHOU for over 37 years. Before he joined Channel 11, he has worked at KRIS-TV and KEDT-TV in his hometown of Corpus Christi.[1]
Biography
Ron Trevino is a News veteran at KHOU 11 and one of KHOU's award-winning journalists, who hails from Texas, United States. He has more than 40 years of television news experience, he has spent 37 of those years at KHOU 11. Ron anchors KHOU 11 News weekend newscasts, and is also a journalist.
Ron Trevino's successful career, which spans more than 40 years he has undertaken many assignments, but notably, the one that took him from the war-torn streets of Sarajevo to the Vatican.[2]
Ron Trevino is married to Cheryl Martin, and he has a daughter named Allison.
Education
Ron Trevino had his high school education at Del Mar College, after which he proceeded to the University of Houston.[6]
Career
Ron Trevino began his television career while still in high school, at KRIS-TV and KEDT-TV in Corpus Christi, and kept sharpening his craft at KIII-TV while attending Del Mar College. He proceeded his education at the University of Houston and joined KHOU in 1982 as a producer. [4]
On different occasions at KHOU 11 News, Ron Trevino has handled reporting, anchoring and producing duties, including a stint as executive producer of the morning news.
His assignments have taken him from the war-torn streets of Sarajevo to the masterpiece-filled halls of the Vatican.[8]
Throughout the years, Ron has been exceptionally dynamic in the community, volunteering his time and efforts to several local charities and causes including the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association, the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance of Houston, Courtney's Crusade, the Escape Family Resource Center and many area schools and emergency clinics.
Awards
Ron Trevino has won some awards including the Houston Hispanic Media Professionals Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015, and the United Press International National Broadcast Award for Spot News.
He is a recipient of the Dallas Press Club's Katie Award for Best Major Market Newscast.[3]
