Rohen Shah (born August 9th, 1989), known by the stage name MC SKULE, is an American entrepreneur, educator, educational theorist, and rapper who is the 2018 National Tutor of the Year, an award given by the National Tutoring Association. ^[7]He first rose to fame after creating calculus YouTube videos through Far From Standard Tutoring, and later by creating viral Educational Music videos through SKULE.org. ^[17]He is currently the CEO of DiagKNOWstics Learning, and is the author of the book Teach Like a Doctor. ^[0]

Shah was born in Michigan, and attended Plymouth-Canton Educational Park and the University of Michigan, receiving a B.S. in Mathematics and Economics (2010). ^[7]He worked at Taco Bell in high school, and at Far From Standard Tutoring during college. ^[15]

In 2010, Shah started a doctoral program in Math Education, again at the University of Michigan.

His doctoral advisors were Hyman Bass and Deborah Ball. He received an M.A. in Education (2013), after which he dropped out of the Ph.D. program in order to recover from back surgery. ^[0]

During his recovery from back surgery, Shah began making an analogy between the fields of education and medicine.

Shah created a list of educational "diseases" - coining terms such as Memorizitis, Hyperconfidencia, and Applicatosis. After presenting on this theory at Harvard University and the University of Michigan, he began writing the book Teach Like a Doctor and eventually founded DiagKNOWstics Learning in 2014. ^[1]

While the company started as an in-person tutoring service in Ann Arbor, MI, with tutors being trained using DiagKNOWstics Theory, the company eventually began focusing exclusively on adaptive learning software. ^[1]

The first adaptive learning software created through DiagKNOWstics was Best Econ Tutor.

^[2]The website www.BestEconTutor.com grew in popularity, leading the company to produce software for various subjects, including SAT Math.

During the 2016 US Presidential election, Shah created a song that explained the U.S. Electoral college voting system. ^[14]The popularity of this song led to the creation of a non-profit whose aim would be to make more educational music videos. With the stage name "MC SKULE", Shah co-founded SKULE.org, which stands for Spread Knowledge Using Lyrics & Entertainment.

He collaborated with Grammy winner Chuck Alkazian to release a parody to Jay Z's 99 Problems, 99 Math Problems, which received 400,000 views in the first week. ^[13]He then created a song about equations with Voyageur Academy, and a song about reading with Crissman Elementary School. ^[17]

In 2017, he collaborated with Bollywood director Rupan Bal on a rap song about feminism called The F Word, which received a million views. ^[16]
