Roger Baker (artist)

Roger Baker, aka "Da Vinci of the Lawn mower," is an artist who uses a lawn mower to create masterpieces out of grass.

Past works

Roger began his artistic endeavors in 2000, when he cut the Statue of Liberty National Monument into a field.

He then did portraits of Elvis Presley, Albert Einstein, Jimi Hendrix, Indian Larry and Beethoven, respectively.

Process

Roger has stated his general method is to pick a field thatโ€™s going to be conducive to the piece, meaning it is a healthy field.

Roger creates 4-5 different scale drawings at the studio, lays out the image with his team, and begins cutting with smaller mowers.

The team then uses full size lawn mowers to cut the grass into different gradations, so light is reflected differently.

From an aerial view, shorter plots of grass yield lighter areas in the image and the inverse is also true.
