Rodney Halbower is a man with a ling history of criminal actions including violent rapes, car thefts, prison escapes, and an attempted murder.

He is now an alleged serial rapist and murderer after his DNA was taken and matched to a series of rapes and murders in Northern California and Reno, Nevada.

Because it took decades to test his DNA, a woman spent all tbose years in prison for the Reno rape and murder he is now believed to have committed.

As of 2016 he is in an Oregon prison for attacking an Oregon woman and is being tried for the Gypsy Hill killings.

Cathy Woods was cleared of killing one of the women, college student Michell Mitchell, after DNA evidence pointing to Halbower was found.

Halbower is accused of a string of San Francisco area murders including 5 young women in 1976 as well as aas been linked to a string of killings in the Bay Area in that year.

Penitentiary, was linked to the killings of five young women there and a sixth murder victim in Reno, where DNA linking him to the crime was found and connected to him as he was being tranferred.

He is currently imprisoned in the Oregon State Penitentiary.

He commited a slew of crimes after a prison escape.

Halbower was born June 27, 1948 in Wisconsin.

His family to Muskegon, Michigan while he was a toddler.

In 1964 he was sent to prison for violating the terms his probation from juvenile court sentence for stealing a car.

In 1965 he was convicted of breaking and entering and sentenced to five years in prison.

In 1970 he was convicted of robbery, andsentenced to four years in prison.

He escaped a Michigan prison that same year.

In 1975 while on Parile he moved to Nevada.

In December of 1975 he was arrested for the rape of a Reno blackjack dealer.

Over the next four months while put on bail he is believed to have raped and murdered five young in Northern California and a sixth in Reno.

In May 1976 he was sentenced to life in prison for the rape of the Reno blackjack dealer.

He escaped a Carson City, Nevada prison in June 1977 and was arrested in July of that year for kidnapping his 7 year old daughter in Muskegon, Michigan.

He escaped Nevada state prison in Carson City in December 1986.

He stole a car and drove to Jackson, Oregon where he raped and nearly murdered a young woman.

In March of 1987 he is sentenced to 15 years in prison for the rape and attempted murder.

In November 2013 he was paroled from Nevada prison and sent to Oregon to serve his 15-year prison sentence there.

During the transfer, Oregon authorities obtain his DNA and he is linked to the 1976 Reno murder and the North California rapes and killings.
