Rochelle Diamond has been a faculty member at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) for 35 years. [4]She attended the University of California, Santa Barbara and was a member of the City of Hope / Genentech research team that cloned the human gene for insulin in 1978. Her work is primarily in the Division of Biology and Biological Engineering on cell separation and flow cytometry. Diamond's paramount role at the university is as the manager of the Flow Cytometry/Cell Sorting Facility. [1]
Diamond is a proud representative of the LGBTQ+ community since coming out at the age of 16.
[2]She is currently a chairperson for the National Organization of Gay and Lesbian Scientists and Technical Professionals (NOGLSTP). [4]Additionally, she is very active in the LGBTQ+ community at Caltech, and participates in several events aimed at increasing inclusion and awareness. [1]Diamond has been with her life partner, Barbara Belmont, since the 1980's. The two had a commitment ceremony of July of 2000. [0]
