Early Life & Education

Rob Markman grew up in Brooklyn.

He was surrounded by hip-hop.

The first song he learned the words to was Slick Rick’s "La Di Da Di."

Career

Early Beginnings

Before beginning his career in journalism, Rob Markman worked in the mailroom.

Journalism

He got his start freelancing for publications like Complex, *The Source * , *Vibe *, and Don Diva magazines.

He has held full-time editor positions at Scratch, *XXL *, *MTV News *. Since then, Markman has interviewed artists like Jay Z, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Drake, [[LINK|lang_en|J._Cole|J.

Cole]], and Kendrick Lamar .

He's also interviewed pop artists outside of the rap industry, including Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, and Katy Perry.

In 2012, he teamed with Wiz Khalifa for an interview on the rapper’s *Taylor Allderdice *mixtape.

While at MTV, he produced and starred in “RapFix Live” and “Hottest MCs in the Game.”

In August 2015, he joined Genius as their Director of Artist Relations.

Music

In 2017, Markman announced his foray into rapping.

Shortly thereafter, he released his first EP, Write to Dream.

Markman's favorite album is Nas's *Illmatic *. [10] He's a fan of the New York Knicks.
