Robert Dentmond was a 16 year old American student from Gainesville, Florida. He attended Gainesville High School where he was a sophmore.

On March 20, 2016 he was shot dead by police after a standoff.

Dentmond had called 911 on that Sunday night to say that he had a gun and was going to kill himself.

Officers who came to the troubled teen just after 10 p.m. found him in the parking lot outside his apartment building with what appeared to be an AR-15, but was later found out to be a fake.

The half-hour standoff included the high school sophomore obeyed police orders and putting down the gun, which had its orange tip covered.

According to a witness, Dentmond was shot after he continued moving toward the building despite officers’ warnings.
