RMR (Singer)
RMR (Singer)
RMR pronounced "Rumour" is a self-styled masked singer who ventured into the music industry after his YouTube sensational "Rascal" with over 2.2 million views.
Career
RMR claims he was a behind-the-scenes figure in the studio before the ski mask and the moniker, designing or engineering for his mates until choosing to compose and act for himself.
"Rascal" was made three months ago, by his estimation, but he is wary of sharing many details behind the creation of the song.
According to him, his "homeboy" produced the song and the RMR's team directed the video.
Although the video is credited to someone named Gabe on YouTube.
"It was life-changing.
You wait and pray for something to happen and then, when it actually does, you just have to take your nuts and run with them, "
RMR tells Rolling Stone over the phone.
"'Rascal' originated from a pure location.
I did not force something.
I was expecting some people to gravitate towards it when I dropped it, but it just reached the meteorite-type of impact it had, like 'boom.'
The self-styled enigma known as RMR stormed the darkened recording studio, stretched a gentle but meaty hand and launched the traditional folk song "Man of Constant Sorrow" from underneath a black balaclava without warning into a fiery cappella version.
Personal
RMR declines to give his true name.
At one point he says he's 24 years old before backtracking to say he's actually 23, mentioning he gets "confused" sometimes because he's so close to being 24.
He grew up between Atlanta's Buckhead neighborhood, and Inglewood, California, Los Angeles, according to RMR. He cites moving between the two places to inspire his country-love.
