Education
Abdelkader graduated from New Dorp High School in 2001. She then went on to attend Lubin School of Business from 2002 - 2006, where she received a BBA in marketing.
During her time as an undergraduate, she completed international marketing field study in Brussels and London. She was also a contributing writer for The Pace Press, and was an undergraduate commencement speaker.
Upon completing her undergrad studies, Abdelkader enrolled at CUNY Graduate School of Journalism from 2008 - 2009, receiving an MA in broadcast journalism and international studies.
Career
Her career in journalism first began when Abdelkader interned for CNN's senior international correspondent Richard Roth at the United Nations in 2006.
Abdelkader is also a board member of the Arab and Middle Eastern Journalists Association and a member the New York Women in Communications, Inc.
Influences
Abdelkader has stated that meeting Maurice DuBois in the summer of her junior year of high school, the reason for her pursuing a career in journalism. She was attracted to his natural talent of reporting, his great camaraderie with his colleagues, and love for his job.
