Rebecca Lynne Weissbard was a 22 year-old champion Equestrian horseback rider from Manorville, New York.

Weissbard attended Eastport South Manor High and gradated in 2011.

In 2013 she participated in the Maccabiah Games, an international Jewish sporting event in Israel, and won a gold medal.

Death

On Wednesday, August 31st, 2016, during Weissbard's ride in a jumping competition for HITS(Horse In the Sun)-on-the-Hudson equestrian facility in upstate New York in the Saugerties area, she suffered an accident that led to her death.

As her horse began to jump the second of the 10 hurdles, the horse stumbled and fell on top of her, instantly killing her.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

She had won an earlier competition during the day, and she was entering a second run through the hurdle with her horse.

A candlelight vigil is being held in her memory at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Sundance Stables in Manorville, which her family owns.
