Rayshard Brooks was a 27-year-old African American male who was shot and killed by an Atlanta Police Department officer in the parking lot of a Wendy's on June 12, 2020. ^{[1] [2] [3]}

The shooting incident began with a call to police at 10:33 p.m. on Friday June 13, 2020, about a man sleeping in a parked vehicle in the Wendy's drive-thru lane, causing other customers to drive around it.

Responding police from the Atlanta Police Department gave Brooks a field sobriety testing, which he failed. He resisted arrest and struggled with officers. Surveillance video shows Brooks running away with what appears to be the officer's taser. According to the video, Brooks ran the length of about five to seven parking spaces before turning around and pointing the taser at the officer. ^[1]

Brooks was taken to a hospital, where he died.

One officer was treated for an injury and released.
