Rawayana [1] is a Venezuelan rock/reggae band formed in 2007 in Caracas. Its members are Alberto "Beto"[3] Montenegro, Antonio "Tony" Casas, Andrés Story and Alejandro Abeijón. It is known for its mix of reggae and ska. They became known in Venezuela after their participation in the Festival Nuevas Bandas (Venezuela) in 2010. The publication of their album "Licencia para ser libre" and their singles "Fuego azul" and "Algo diferente" made them popular nationwide.
History
Beginnigs and Festival nuevas bandas (2007-2010)
Rawayana[2] was born in 2007 in Caracas, Venezuela.
It was founded by Monse and Alberto Montenegro and Tony Casas Jr. who, after playing together for a while, decided to incorporate guitarist Alejandro Abeijón and drummer Rodrigo Michelangeli.
By mid 2009, under the Management and Booking of World Musical Madness, the group begins to perform in various venues in the Venezuelan capital, at which time they decide to add as percussionist Toño Casas Sr., father of the bassist and Andres Story (Major Percussion).
A few months later, Rawayana is selected among hundreds of bands nationwide to perform at the Festival Nuevas Bandas 2010.
This recognition leads them to share the stage with artists like Viniloversus (Venezuelan Rock Band), La Vida Boheme, Los Mesoneros, Melendi, El Cuarteto de Nos, Los Mentas, Onechot, among many others.
Licencia para ser libre (2011-2012)
In 2011 he released his first album called Licencia Para Ser Libre (License to be Free) with which he had a showcase promoted by the beach brand Quiksilver and the Peer Music label.
This event took place at the Hard Rock Cafe Caracas, attended by more than a thousand people, are known for its video clip Fuego Azul directed by Rodrigo Michelangeli and Johan Verhook which had great acceptance among the Venezuelan public, as well as the songs, "Falta Poco", "Algo Distinto" and "Gatos Oliva" which make him receive four awards at the Pepsi Awards in Venezuela: Best Reggae Artist of the Year, Best Reggae Song of the Year with "Algo Distinto", Best Reggae Video of the Year and Best Reggae Album of the Year.
Rawayanaland (2013)
In May 2013, Rawayana released his second album called Rawayanaland via YouTube, and some time later he would perform in physical.
The album features collaborations such as José Luis Pardo (Afro DJ) (guitarist of Los Amigos Invisibles), Natalia Lafourcade and MC Klopedia.
Their first single is Ay Ay.
The video for this song was directed by their former drummer Rodrigo Michelangeli.
Their second single is Hoy Tema which has collaborations by Ramses (MCklopedia) and Psyco, member of 4.º Poder
Trippy caribbean (2016)
On October 7, 2016, Rawayana releases its third album entitled "Trippy Caribbean".
His song "High" with collaboration from Apache, became recognized by several countries in the Americas and currently has 66 million views on YouTube.
This album brought them international recognition, and they toured North America in March (Toronto, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, Miami, Orlando) and Europe in May (Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, London) in 2017, in addition to dates in countries already visited such as Colombia (including the Stereo Picnic Festival), Argentina, El Salvador, Panama, and Puerto Rico.
