Founded in Summer 2013 by Seth Miller and two college friends, Brandon Logan and Max Yankee, the app launched in June 2014 and graduated from 500 Startups Batch 15.
Rapchat is based in Columbus, Ohio.
Rapchat has received acclaim for its functionality and popularity, being recognized by industry titans such as Elliot Wilson.
Some of its co-founders and co-owners include Pat Gibson, the popular rapper known as P-Holla, Ben Lachman, Michael Gibson, Jeremy Packer, Zachary Schwartz, and Andrew Schroyer.
Rapchat's beat producers include Afrojack, ASAP Ty Beats, Logic, Judge Beats, and Cam Meekins.
In Spring 2018, Rapchat announced that it had received $1.6 million in funding and surpassed over 100 million listens on its platform.

Controversy
Rapchat gained some notoriety in November 2017 when it was used by high school students at Spanish Fort High in Alabama to make derogatory rap songs about the African-American community.
[2]The local NAACP President released a statement claiming that "The first amendment goes out the door when you start making these rap talks and stuff like that."
However, the focus of the investigation was on the students who used the app and not the company itself.
