Quintez Cephus
Quintez Cephus (raised in Macon, Georgia) is an American student and football player. He is a player for Wisconsin Badgers at University of Wisconsin–Madison and is affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
Career
In January 2020, Quintez Cephus announced on Twitter and Instagram that he will skip his senior season to enter the National Football League Draft. "I'm excited to put my name in for the draft and to have a chance to play at the highest level," Cephus said.[17]
Quintez Cephus led Wisconsin in receptions (59), receiving yards (901) and touchdown receptions (seven) in 2019.[17]
Cephus missed the final five games of the Badgers' 2017 campaign because of a broken right leg and did not play at all in 2018 after being expelled from school following sexual assault charges.
Cephus was acquitted by a jury in August, reinstated by school officials and was ruled academically eligible for 2019.[17]
"I want to thank Coach [Paul] Chryst and Coach [Ted] Gilmore for everything they've done for me and for always having my back," Cephus said.
"They've helped me grow as a football player and as a man.
The same for my teammates.
Their support has meant everything."[17]
Acquittal
In 2019, Cephus was acquitted of second- and third-degree sexual assault by a jury after two women said he sexually assaulted them at his apartment in 2018.
Cephus was suspended from Wisconsin's football team in August 2018 after charges were filed against him.[20]
Per the Associated Press, the women testified that they were too drunk to have sex.
Cephus said that he met the women the same day they came to his apartment: "He said that at a bar that night, that woman introduced him to her friend, 'and for the rest of the 20 to 30 minutes [at the bar] she was attached to me.' He said he didn't see the two women drink much."
Cephus also admitted to having his roommate and teammate, Danny Davis, take a picture of him having sex with the two women and that he lied to police about who took the photo because he was trying to protect Davis.[20]
