Bong Qiu Qiu

Bong Qiu Qiu (born 27 June 1987) is the social media moniker of Ang Chiew Ting, a blogger and YouTube and Instagram celebrity based in Singapore.

Career

Qiu Qiu is a Singaporean lifestyle blogger and influencer.

Her blog posts feature aspects of her personal life, advertorials, travel, beauty, fashion and lifestyle tips.[7] As an influencer, Qiu Qiu has collaborated with various notable brands such as Lenovo, Pizza Hut, Samsung and Kiehl's on commercials and written advertorials.

She also has her own YouTube channel with more than 45k subscribers[2] and her own Instagram page with more than 293k followers as of June 2019.[3]

When she was 17 years old, Qiu Qiu started dabbling in modelling and participating in beauty pageants.

She worked part-time with the modeling agencyDIVA MODELS Singapore and was selected to model for several hair and fashion shows. During her first year of study in Singapore Polytechnic (SP), she also participated in theMr and Miss Singapore Poly competition. [7]

Qiu Qiu started blogging in 2008 when she was 21 years old.[7] In a 2017 YouTube interview hosted by Pornsak Prajakwit onThe Michelle Chong Channel, created by Singaporean actress Michelle Chong, in segment calledCourt Porn, QiuQiu mentioned that her blog started out as "just a diary"[8]. In 2011, she began actively uploading on her personal YouTube channel.[2]

Cereal Citizen (2018 - Present day)

On January 10, 2018, Qiu Qiu opened a cafe namedCereal Citizen together with her close friend and blogger Rachell Tan.[10] The cafe mainly sold cronuts (crossaint donuts), milkshakes and cereal served with milk. The cafe has since moved from its original location and now participtes in roadshows.[11]

Qiu Bue (2018 - Present day)

Qiu Qiu started Qiu Bue**in 2018, an online beauty product distributor and retailer that imports a variety of overseas beauty products. According to its Instagram page, the store claims to be the only Singapore liaison for South Korean beauty brand Pittoresco and Vani-T bubble mask from Japan.[12]

"Ah Boys to Men" (2012)

Qiu Qiu made her first acting debut in a local movie titled Ah Boys to Men.

She had been cast to act as Amy, the girlfriend to the male protagonist Ken Chow, acted by Joshua Tan.[7] The movie was directed by Jack Neo and became one of the top-grossing Singaporean movies, earning approximately SGD$6.2M at the box office.[13]

YouTube (2011 - Present day)

In 2011, Qiu Qiu started hosting a new segment on clicknetwork.tv's YouTube channel titledBudget Barbie where she goes shopping at a budget of SGD$100 and shares the shopping haul with viewers. The clothes and accessories will then be given to the viewers through a giveaway. Over the years, the segment has expanded from fashion to include other lifestyle related goods for giveaways. As of June 2019, there are 117 episodes ofBudget Barbie. [9]

Apart from having her own channel, QiuQiu had also guest-starred for several other local YouTube channels.

In 2016, she was invited as a guest judge onSP Masterchef Season 3, a culinary competition organised by Singapore Polytechnic.[15] She also appeared in many videos on food and lifestyle published by the YouTube channel Good Feelim from 2016 to 2017, in segments such as COLORFOOL and FOOD MY LIFE.[14] In 2018, Qiu Qiu and Soh Pei Shi, a fellow Singaporean lifestyle blogger and influencer, acted in a YouTube web series onThe Michelle Chong Channel titled "Michelle's Busy". They appeared in episodes 4 and 5 of the series where they acted as seasoned influencers who were training an amateur to gain popularity in the media industry. [16]

Variety shows

Before she was known for her prominence on YouTube, Qiu Qiu had appeared in a Mediacorp Channel U variety show titled “You Are The One”.[8] In 2015, she appeared in “Mars Vs Venus S1”, a Mediacorp Channel U variety show where she shared her encounter with plastic surgery on national television for the first time.[17] She had also appeared on one episode of the 2018 Toggle series “How To Lady” where she and the hosts experimented with unique Japanese beauty products.[18]

Personal Life

Qiu Qiu was born in Singapore on 27 June, 1987. Her astrological sign is Cancer.

On 9 December 2012, she married professional photographer, Joshua Tan.

The wedding was held at the restaurant Skyve, and approximately SGD$25k of the wedding was sponsored by a variety of fashion, beauty, lifestyle and F&B companies.

Singaporean blogger Xiaxue was also present as the host for the event.[7] With her husband Josh, Qiu Qiu has two daughters, Meredith and Amelia, aged 4 and 2 years old respectively. On April 8, 2019, she gave birth to her third child, a son named Oliver, at Thomson Medical Centre.[3]

Churp Churp Court Case (2016)

In 2016, legal action was taken against Qiu Qiu by ChurpChurp, a Singapore-based social media network agency. She was accused for violating her employment commitments by promoting advertorials with external brands without the company’s consent.[19] The matter was brought to court and Qiu Qiu turned to crowdfunding on GIVEasia to pay off her legal fees.[20] The move generated backlash from netizens to the extent where some requested the then-pregnant Qiu Qiu to abort her child in order to reduce her financial burden. In a 2017 interview with Pornsak Prajakwit on YouTube, Qiu Qiu stated that the whole ordeal had her depressed and that she had to seek counselling at a mental institution.[21]

Plastic Surgery

In 2011, Qiu Qiu went for a breast enlargement surgery.

She recorded clips of the process and uploaded them onto a "Budget Barbie" episode.

As of June 2019, the video has more than 2.2M views on YouTube, making it the most popular video on the segment.[9] Between 2013 to 2016, she underwent ten more cosmetic surgeries such as alarplasty and redefining of jawline and facial bones.[22] In 2014, she was sponsored by REGEN Medical Group to travel to South Korea for 4 cosmetic surgeries.[2]

Education

Qiu Qiu completed her secondary school education at Woodsville Secondary School.

She then furthered her studies at Singapore Polytechnic where she joined the Business Administration course and majored in Retail. [7]
