Preston Hartzog vs. James Toney was a boxing exhibition that occurred in downtown Los Angeles, California in 2004. Hartzog was 1997-1998 All Army Superheavyweight Boxing Champion.
The Mike Tyson vs. Evander Holyfield I and Evander Holyfield vs. Mike Tyson II matches of 1996 and 1997 grossed over 200 million dollars in revenue. James Toney is one of two people to stop Evander Holyfield in a professional boxing match. The matches were promoted by Don King Productions.[24]

Preston Hartzog won the gold medal at the 1997 US Armed Forces Championship in the superheavyweight division. The event was held between February 9th and 14th at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune.[1] On August 17, 2004, Hartzog fought a three round boxing exhibition against James Toney at the Wild Card Boxing Gym in Los Angeles, California.[4] The Wild Card Boxing Gym was inducted into the National Boxing Hall of Fame in 2016.
The fight lasted the distance with both boxers attempting over two hundred punches.
Hartzog used his long arms to block and smother Toney's punches.
Hartzog threw punches to the body and the head.

Hartzog was in the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program on Fort Carson in 1999. He had seventeen professional boxing matches, winning fifteen with one loss and a draw. He had a draw with Patrick Smith in a professional boxing match in 2004.
He was only stopped once in the course of the action in his boxing career, by Matthew E. Hartzog defeated Wesley Correira in a mixed martial arts bout on November 14, 2000 at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. Correira holds wins over Eric Esch and Tank Abbott.[26]

James Toney defeated Evander Holyfield in 2003 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Holyfield was only stopped twice in the course of the action in his professional boxing career. Holyfield won the WBC/WBA/IBF/lineal heavyweight world championship in 1990 by beating Buster Douglas. He lost the title to Riddick Bowe in 1992.[666666]
Holyfield regained the lineal world championship in 1993 by defeating Riddick Bowe.
Toney had a draw with Hasim Rahman in 2006. Rahman won and lost the lineal heavyweight champioship to Lennox Lewis in 2001. In the last one hundred years there have only been thirty one lineal heavyweight world champions.
Aftermath
Toney tko'd Evander Holyfield
James Toney defeated John Ruiz for the World Boxing Association heavyweight world championship in April 2005. The outcome was negated after Toney failed a post fight drug test. Toney was managed for the early part of his career by Jackie Kallen and the latter part of his career by John Arthur. Preston Hartzog lost his last boxing match to Willie Chapman at the The Orleans in Las Vegas, Nevada on August 5, 2005. Hartzog died unexpectedly in 2006. Toney competed for the last time in a professional boxing ring in 2017 when he defeated Mike Sheppard for the vacant WBF heavyweight title.

O'Neil On The Grueling Truth
Matthew E. O'Neil was on a February 2020 episode of The Grueling Truth in which he discussed his boxing match with Hartzog. He spoke with former professional football coach Mike Goodpaster and Jeremiah Preisser. Preisser is a member of the Transnational Boxing Ratings Board. O'Neil was also on AkHi TV in 2020 which is based out of New York City. He ran for Clark County Commission in 2006 against Rory Reid. O'Neil's biological son, Dan Marshall, resides in Toronto, Canada.[25]

The US Supreme Court legalized sports gambling in 2019 and Massachusetts governor Charlie Baker has stated that sports gambling will soon be seen at Massachusetts casinos. O'Neil still possesses knockout force and he has the capacity to make it through rounds. O'Neil has worked in business and for Havard University. In 2006, Rory Reid spent 1 million dollars against him when he ran for Clark County Commission in Nevada. O'Neil is hopeful that his training system can produce one final victory.[21]
